ARDS-induced histopathological changes in rat lungs. Rats were subjected to surfactant depletion by repeated lung lavages (10 times) with saline to experimentally induce ARDS. The controls were non-lavaged and non-ventilated rats, maintained at room air until the collection of lung tissue. Shown are representative images. Arrows indicate hyaline membranes.
